COOLING THE EARTH

Emissions from aircrafts, which are more persistent and damaging than ground-level emissions, will be contributing much more to global warming by the year 2050, according to a new report released by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The report provides a detailed assessment of the impact of all of the gases and particles emitted by aircraft engines on climate and atmospheric ozone.

Air travel is projected to grow by about 5% annually until 2015, burning 3% more fuel per year in that period. Aircraft emissions, and their impacts, will be far greater in 2050 unless new technologies and operational modes are developed, says the report.

What Are WE Doing About It?

Reducing the amount of energy we use is critically important in the effort to stop global warming.

But it isn’t nearly enough.

Even if we drive a hybrid car, use compact fluorescent lighting and take every energy saving step we can, we are still going to use some energy and create CO2 pollution. One of the most impactful ways to do something about the CO2 pollution we can’t avoid creating – help reduce CO2 pollution another way.

We can help finance and build new clean and renewable energy projects that help displace electricity from fossil fuels and reduce other greenhouse gas emissions, making up for the CO2 emissions we can’t avoid.

At 2K.2, while we recognise the need to reduce unneccessary air and car travel first and foremost, we acknowledge that some journeys are unavoidable.

In this regard, 2K.2 Inc. is developing a partnership with Native Energy, to offset all of its business air travel, beginning January 2007. Native Energy consists of a team of committed people - environmentalists, dreamers, entrepreneurs, activists, believers - working hard to provide simple and effective ways to help fight global warming. A "simple" return trip to New York City from Los Angeles releases 4 tons of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Carbon-offsetting provides a positive step to help repair our impact on the climate and the planet.

It WORKS, Why?

Carbon-offsetting reduces global warming pollution by reducing the amount of power generated by burning fossil fuels.

  • Under federal law, renewable generators can force utilities to buy their power
  • For efficient grid operation, if the utility has to buy the project’s power, it is going to use it
  • As a matter of physics, if the utility uses the renewable project’s power, it must, for any given level of demand, use less from other sources
  • For efficient grid operation, they use less from those generators that have the highest fuel costs – fossil fuel plants.

The result is that for every kWh generated by a renewable generator, one kWh less is generated by fossil fuel plants.

How YOU Can Help?

In doing our part, we continuously strive to find new ways to help reduce CO2 emissions.
